Resources

There are hundreds of resources available for you in the common market. We've worked with many, and we've provided our recommendations based on price and quality below.

Firelight Café also provides all of these services at nominal rates, which can be further negotiated depending on your needs. We can also hunt for these independent resources and manage them on your behalf for a small agency fee. The services are always itemized so you know exactly how much they cost.

Websites

Fiverr

We're firm believers in supporting indie creatives of all kinds, and that includes those working in common spaces like Fiverr.

As with all freelance work, your projects with Fiverr have to be managed, and each professional has their own workflows and schedules, so plan ahead. We also encourage you to shop around to find the quality and cost that best suits your goals.

Reedsy

Reedsy provides a ton of services for all prospective authors, and one of those services is putting you in touch with experienced individuals at Big Five quality.

It also often comes at a Big Five price. While we'd encourage you to consider what Reedsy has to offer, you need an operating budget to afford most of these services.

BookBaby

This is one of the premier full-service options for indie authors, boasting a stable of editors with years of publishing experience, a firm rate card, clear outlines of each of their services, and their associated costs.

It's also not as expensive as you might think. While the rates might be a little intimidating, a typical 80,000-word novel is right around 180 pages, which translates to roughly 2.5 cents per word for redlines. To put this into perspective, some freelance line editors charge up to $1 per word.

Personal Development

A touchy subject for some, there's no professional success in writing without the skills to back it up, whether it's brushing up on your grammar, learning storycraft, or getting to know the industry. The resources below offer a range of help, from workspaces to advice, to any aspiring author.

Reedsy

The free resources offered by this website are impressive, including a place to write, edit, and share your book online at no cost.

Writing.com

This can be an intimidating and cavernous website at first glance, but it's worth getting to know what it offers.

NaNoWriMo

Most aspiring authors have at least heard of NaNoWriMo, short for National Novel Writing Month. Each November, NaNoWriMo issues a 50,000 word challenge, but their help and resources don't end there.

Booklife

Publishers' Weekly produces this indie support website, which can also help promote your work. It also provides a comprehensive list of resources for editing, book covers, and more.
